Two games, two wins for the Pirates in home doubleheader

COSTA MESA -- After a frustrating loss at Cerritos College on Friday afternoon, the Orange Coast College softball team took its frustrations out on L.A. Harbor and Compton colleges and topped them both in a three-team, doubleheader at the OCC Softball Complex.

In the opener, Coast (2-1) used some late offense to pull past the visiting Seahawks, 7-3. Nala Osorio went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs and two RBI, while Bronwyn Jarvis added two hits and two RBI and Audrey Beck ripped a pair of hits, drove in one and scored one.

Coast led, 2-0, before LAHC used a three-run fifth to grab a 3-2 lead. But Osorio's solo blast tied the game up and Sarah Hambre put the Pirates ahead for good with an RBI single to cap off the two-run fifth inning.

Another RBI by Osorio and a two-run double by Jarvis in the bottom of the sixth put the game away for Coast, who picked up solid relief work by Taylor Berry, who pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits with two walks and one strikeout to earn the win.

In the nightcap, Coast took on Compton and, while it wasn't as lopsided as last year's matchups (29-1, 17-0), the Pirates cruised to a 9-0 win in five innings.

Hambre went 3-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI for Coast, while Osorio, Beck and Danielle Votendahl combined for six hits, four runs and five RBI.

Madison Njust picked up the win in relief, throwing the final 1 2/3 innings, while striking out all five batters she faced.

Coast will return to action at Long Beach City College on Wednesday, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 14 against Santa Ana, also at 3 p.m.
