Pirates rout L.A. Mission to gain DH split
COSTA MESA -- After a 9-2 loss to Pasadena City College, the Orange Coast College softball team regrouped and cruised to a 15-5, five-inning win over L.A. Mission in a three-game double-header on Saturday at the OCC Softball Complex.
After falling behind to the Eagles, 2-0 in the first inning, OCC (10-13) came alive with the bats and scored three runs in the second inning, four more in the third, a pair in the fourth and six in the fifth to enforce the five-inning run rule.
Nala Osorio went 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBI, while Sarah Hamre ended the game with a three-run home run for the Pirates. Cora Tyo went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI and Danielle Votendahl notched a pair of hits to go along with two runs and two RBI.
The offensive onslaught was more than enough for OCC starter Bronwyn Jarvis, who pitched a five-inning complete game to earn the win.
Sydney Caballero went 3-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and three RBI for the Eagles (14-13).
In the opener against the Lancers (11-9), Coast kept the game close through six innings before a five-run seventh inning enabled PCC to pull away from the Pirates.
Hamre had a strong offensive game with three hits, including a double and solo home run, while Chloe Visca added two hits for Coast.
The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday at home against Cypress, beginning at 2 p.m. (Date and time changed due to impending rainy weather).
