Pirates rout Gauchos for second big win in a row

COSTA MESA -- After a rough five-game losing skid, the Orange Coast College softball team has turned things around with a pair of big Orange Empire Conference wins, topping Golden West, 13-1, on Wednesday at GWC and Saddleback, 13-4, on Monday at the OCC Softball Complex.

In Wednesday's five-inning rout of the Rustlers, Coast pounded out 15 hits and scored three runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings to cruise to victory.

Danielle Votendahl went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Audrey Beck added three hits, three runs and one RBI for the Pirates. Krystal Jimenez added two hits, two runs and two RBI, Jesse Zolinski went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Blake Hesla and Ashley Bullock each came off the bench to provide two-run hits.

Madison Njust picked up her first win of the year, allowing just one run over three scoreless innings.

On Monday, the fun continued as the Pirates (9-8, 2-3 in OEC) scored 14 runs on 11 hits, including four doubles and two home runs.

Those two big flies came off of the bat of Votendahl, who ripped a two-run blast in the first and added a solo shot in the fourth. She finished with two runs and four RBI for the Pirates. Nala Osorio went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Chole Visca added two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Pitcher Bronwyn Jarvis picked up the win, allowing three runs on eight hits over four innings, while Njust finished things off with a scoreless fifth.
