Pirates continue strong start with comeback win over El Camino

SANTA BARBARA -- The Orange Coast College softball team continued to find ways to win as the Pirates used an extra-inning rally to top El Camino, 7-6, on Friday at the Santa Barbara City College Softball Tournament.

Coast (7-4) fell behind to the Warriors, 4-0, in the opening inning before using a three-run third inning and a two-run fifth to grab a 5-4 advantage. The Pirates took advantage of three ECC errors in the third and plated three unearned runs to make it 4-3.

In the fifth, Coast tied the game on an RBI-double by Audrey Beck and she scored two batters later on an RBI-single by Nala Osorio to put the Pirates up, 5-4.

El Camino tied things up in the top of the seventh and grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth before the Pirates mustered one final comeback.

With the international tiebreaker rule in place, Savannah Weaver was on second base to start the inning off and she scored on an ECC error off the bat of Osorio to tie the game at 6.

Five batters later, with the bases loaded and two outs, Jessica Scotty came through with a game-winning single to score Osorio to give OCC its seventh win of the season. To put that in perspective, OCC's seventh win last year came on April 19!

The Pirates return to action on Wednesday at home against Santa Ana College, beginning at 3 p.m., kicking off Orange Empire Conference play for both teams.
