Pirates fall to Dons, Hawks
COSTA MESA -- It was a frustrating 24 hours for the Orange Coast College softball team as the Pirates battled a pair of Orange Empire Conference foes to the limit, but came up short both times in a 5-3 loss to Santa Ana on Tuesday and a 5-1 defeat to Santiago Canyon on Wednesday.
In Tuesday's setback to Santa Ana (18-10, 11-2 in Orange Empire Conference), Coast jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to an RBI single by Kristen Ramillano and a two-run double to right-center off the bat of Audrey Beck.
But SAC relief pitcher Kali Kitsinis (10-1) shut the door the rest of the way, holding the Pirates to just three hits over the final 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
Beck finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Jessica Scotty added a pair of hits and scored a run for OCC.
On Wednesday, the Hawks, led by pitcher Danielle Stallings (11-4), held the Pirates to one run on six hits over seven innings. SCC's Rylie Seip went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Hawks.
OCC had runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but could only muster up an RBI-grounder in the sixth off the bat of Chloe Visca, which scored Beck, who led off with a single to right field.
The Pirates will to action on Wednesday at home against Riverside City College, beginning at 3 p.m.
