VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team posted a tie and a win in its two games in the 2013 Ventura College Tournament, held Thursday and Friday.
Pirate goalkeeper Emily Harrier and the rest of the OCC defense did not allow a goal in either game, with Harrier earning a combined eight saves.
It took a little while, but the Pirate offense found some success at the tourney. In the 44th minute against the Lancers, Karly Freeman slipped a pass over to Shelle Zito and the freshman forward found the back of the net, putting the Pirates ahead, 1-0.
Just 15 minutes into the second half, Coast made it 2-0 when Aly Vargas scored off of another assist from Freeman.
The Pirates will now head up and return to action on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Rio Hondo College.
