Pirates roll to a 5-0 win in season opener

The Orange Coast College women's soccer team took care of business in Friday's season opener and topped host Los Angeles City College, 5-0, in a nonconference matchup on Friday night.

It was a 0-0 stalemate for only three minutes before the Pirates grabbed the lead for good as Shelby Giuntoli took a pass from Katrina Shoga and found the back of the net, for a 1-0 OCC advantage.

From there, it was all-OCC as three more first-half goals -- two from Sydney Powell and one from Rian Landavazo -- gave Coast a 4-0 advantage at the half and from there, the Pirates tacked on a goal from Stephanie Serrato in the 70th minute to close out the scoring.

Assists were provided by Serrato, Leah Martinovich and Koko Tachiki. In goal, Lilly Kauffman played the first half and notched a pair of saves before Chloe Hernandez equalled Kauffman's stats in the second half.

Coast will travel to Miramar College to take on the Jets on Tuesday, beginning at 3 p.m. before heading up to Santa Barbara for the two-day SBCC Tournament, which begins on Thursday against Hartnell College at 1 p.m.
