Pirates end regular season with 3-0 win over Dons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team put the finishing touches on a successful 2023 regular season with a 3-0 win over visiting Santa Ana on Thursday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

The win ends the regular season at 13-6-3 overall for the Pirates and 8-4-2 in the Orange Empire Conference. If there is a postseason berth for OCC, it will be announced next week so be sure to log onto www.occpirateathletics.com for the latest playoff information as it becomes available.

As for Friday's contest, it was smooth sailing for the Pirates as they outshot the Dons 25-5 in the match and picked up two goals from Sydney Powell and a single tally from Leah Martinovich. Assists for the OCC goals came from Katrina Shoga, Rian Landavazo and Stephanie Serrato.

In goal, Chloe Hernandez earned the shutout win with four saves.

For Powell, it's the end of one of the best goal-producing careers in recent OCC history. After scoring 18 goals and four assists as a freshman, this year, Powell kept up her pace with 18 goals and 36 points this year.

In addition to Powell, the Pirates said goodbye to fellow sophomores Martinovich, Koko Tachiki, Kate Hass, Shelby Giuntoli and freshman Leila Bahnsen, who will be moving on from OCC after this season.
