Pirates outlast El Camino, 5-4

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team needed the entire roster to pull out a 5-4 nonconference win over visiting El Camino College on Thursday afternoon on the OCC tennis courts.

The Pirates (3-0) trailed 3-0 after the first three singles matches, but managed to tie the contest at 3-3 after singles, thanks to straight-set wins by Mai Hashimoto, Sydney Farzadkish and Anh Pham.

In doubles, the team of Haley Dickson and Nikki Thornburg shook off their individual singles setbacks to post a convincing 8-3 win over the team of Rose Sgolsutyatorn and Shayla Fulton.

El Camino (3-1) evened things with a win at No. 2 doubles, but at No. 3, Hashimoto and Yuri Cho doubled-up Chihiro Yamada and Jessica DeLaTorre, 8-4 to give the Pirates the victory.

Coast will take a week off before opening up Orange Empire Conference play at home against Riverside on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m.
