Pirates take second at OEC event

SEAL BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team headed to the Navy Golf Course to take on the rest of the Orange Empire Conference on Wednesday and the Pirates finished second overall with a team score of 368.

Riverside edged out the Pirates for the top spot by shooting a 365. Santiago Canyon (375), Cypress (386), Saddleback (391) and Irvine Valley (393) round out the scoring for the rest of the OEC teams.

The second-place finish puts OCC in second place in the OEC standings with a record of 19-6, one win behind Santiago Canyon (20-5) and one win ahead of Riverside (18-7).

OCC's Marc Reyes tamed the par-72 course by firing a 2-under 70 and finished tied for the low round of the day with Riverside's Wes Hatton.

Michael Chen carded a 1-over 73 for Coast, followed by Zach Olson (75), Cody Kelly (76) and Jem Young (79).

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at El Prado Golf Club, beginning at 12 p.m.
