Pirates get offense going in rout of Wolverines

COSTA MESA -- With the wounds of Monday's 3-2 loss to Long Beach City College still fresh, the Orange Coast College men's soccer team took some anger and frustration out on visiting San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday and posted a 7-1 nonconference win at the OCC Soccer Complex.

Three goals in a five-minute stretch helped set the tempo for the rest of the game for the Pirates (1-2-1) as they outshot the Wolverines (3-2-1) 19-6 in the game.

Brandon Bauman had four goals and an assist to lead the Pirates, while Jorge Sanchez added two goals and Baji Chela added one goal.

Sanchez started things off for OCC, finding the back of the net at the 19-minute mark.

Just two minutes later, Bauman took a pass from Chase Nugent and scored to make it 2-0.

The fun continued for the Pirates as Chela slipped a Bauman pass into the net at the 24th minute to make it 3-0.

The Wolverines finally found some success as a goal by Alexander Turkson in the 42nd minute made it 3-1, but the Pirates ended the first half on a strong note as Sanchez's second goal of the game (assisted by Frankie Munoz) put OCC in front 4-1 at the break.

Coast used a pair of penalty-kick goals early in the second half to blow the match wide open. Bauman took both PK attempts and buried both, putting the Pirates up 6-1.

Bauman closed out the scoring in the 65th minute when he took a Chela feed and notched his fourth goal of the game to make it 7-1.

In goal, OCC's Connor Nelson had three saves to pick up the win, while SBVC's Sean Dockrell had six saves.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at El Camino College, beginning at 2 p.m.
