Five Pirates selected to all-conference squad

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team was well represented on this year's All-Orange Empire Conference team, as voted on by the coaches of each team.

With a third-place finish and an 11-4-5 regular season record, five members of the Pirates earned a spot on this year's two teams.

First-team honors went to sophomore midfielder Brandon Bauman, sophomore defender Jake Little and freshman forward Jorge Sanchez.

Bauman, one of two players in the conference nominated for Player of the Year honors, led the OEC in assists (22) and total points (38). He finished third in the conference in total points (22), but still dominated the rest of the field with 16 assists.

Little was a force on defense for the Pirates and his strong all-around play helped guide the Pirates to their first playoff berth since 2006.

Sanchez, a local standout from Costa Mesa HS, was the conference's top overall goal-scorer with 15. He finished tied for the conference lead with 10 goals, along with Santa Ana College's Damian Marquez.

Second-team honors for the Pirates went to sophomore Bajj Chela (12 goals, seven assists, fourth in OEC scoring) and freshman midfielder Frankie Munoz (five points, solid all-around play).

Conference MVP honors went to Golden West defender Max Talbert, who helped anchor a Rustler defense that allowed just 10 goals all season long and just four during conference play. Golden West snapped Santa Ana's run of 18 consecutive OEC championships.
