Coast rolls past Norco, 6-1

COSTA MESA -- With the memory of a 3-2 loss to Norco still fresh in their memories, the Orange Coast College Pirates came out and created a new memory with a convincing 6-1 triumph over the Mustangs on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

Jorge Sanchez had three first-half goals (14 for the season) and two assists for the Pirates (9-3-3, 5-2-2 in Orange Empire Conference), while Baji Chela added two second-half goals and one assist.

OCC's leading point-scorer Brandon Bauman added three assists to his totals, giving the sophomore 19 for the year.

In goal, Connor Nelson stopped five shots for the win.

After some early chances that just missed, the Pirates -- led by three in a row by Sanchez -- found their marks in the 17th, 23rd and 25th minute, respectively.

After putting Coast up 3-0, Sanchez then sent a shot towards goal that deflected off a Norco player and into the net for an own goal, putting the Pirates up 4-0 at the half.

Just 30 seconds into the second half, Sanchez slipped a nice pass over to Chela, who found the back of the net to make it 5-0.

In the 57th minute, Chela took a feed from Bauman and scored his 10th of the season to cap off the Pirates' scoring.

Norco (4-10-2, 2-6-1) scored its lone goal off a misplay by an OCC defender in the 80th minute, but by then, it was too little, too late.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against Irvine Valley College, beginning at 1 p.m.
