Pirates draw even with Chargers, settle for 1-1 tie

COSTA MESA -- With a little help from the Cypress College defense, the Orange Coast College men's soccer team managed to grind its way to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

After giving up a goal in the third minute of the game, the Pirates (6-4-3, 3-2-2 in Orange Empire Conference) finally found the equalizer in the 73rd minute when Jake Little sent a shot on goal that was deflected off of the head of a Charger defender and redirected into the back of the net.

Despite outshooting the Chargers (5-5-4, 2-4-1) throughout the match, Coast missed out on some golden opportunites to take the lead for good, especially in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Chase Nugent, who had five shots on goal, hit the crossbar in the first half and deflected another shot off of the crossbar in the second half.

Chargers goalkeeper Antonio Roman was up to the task, stopping 10 shots, including several from point-blank range.

OCC's Connor Nelson had three saves in the stalemate.

The Pirates will play at Santiago Canyon on Friday at 3 p.m. Coast's next home contest will be on Tuesday against Norco College, also at 3 p.m.
