Second-half offense sparks 2-1 comeback win over Oxnard

OXNARD -- After allowing a late first-half goal, the Orange Coast College men's soccer team regrouped and rallied past Oxnard College, 2-1, in Saturday's Southern California Regional Playoff opener.

OCC (12-5-4) (seeded 13th in this year's regional) controlled the action for most of the first half before the fourth-seeded Condors (14-3-4) found the back of the net in the 45th minute of play, putting the Pirates down 1-0.

Once the second half started, Coast took back the momentum it had sustained throughout most of the first 45 minutes of play. Finally, in the 56th minute, Patrik Haley sent in a shot on goal that deflected off of some bodies in front and the ball somehow found its way into the back of the net, tying the match at 1-1.

With the Pirates continuing to move forward, Baji Chela took a pass from Tyler Rios and buried a shot into the goal from 25 yards out in the 68th minute, putting Coast up for good.

Connor Nelson came up with four saves for the Pirates, who now will travel to Chaffey College and take on the fifth-seeded Panthers (15-4-2), who defeated Santa Barbara City College, 3-2, on Saturday.
