Pirates open with scoreless stalemate against Rio Hondo

WHITTIER -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team opened its 2012 season with a scoreless tie at Rio Hondo College on Wednesday afternoon.

"We had several great scoring opportunities, but we just couldn't cash in on them," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "Their goalkeeper made some pretty good saves too. I like our team and if we can finish on some of those opportunities, we'll be in good shape."

In goal, Rafael Contreras-Geck posted five saves to preserve the shutout.

The Pirates will return to action at L.A. Harbor on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m.
