Pirates open OEC play with sweep over Rustlers

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball team took care of business on Friday night, sweeping past rival Golden West in three sets on Friday night inside the GWC Gym to kick off Orange Empire Conference action.

In a balanced offensive attack, Zane Moothart had nine kills, Clark Steele added eight kills and Will Donald notched seven kills to lead the Pirates (11-2, 1-0) past the Rustlers (5-6, 0-1), 25-22, 25-23, 25-18.

Wyatt Henson and Kyle McCauley each notched five kills and led the defense with seven digs each for Coast, while setters Colby Elder and Jacob Gilliam combined for 36 assists.

OCC dominated the middle with 24 combined blocks, with Bradley Hankus leading the way with seven block assists.

Joshua Kim led the Rustlers with 13 kills and six digs, while Enzo Boggio dished out 26 assists.

The Pirates and Rustlers will meet again on Wednesday night, at OCC, beginning at 6 p.m.
