Pirates overcome 0-2 hole to rally past Hornets in five

FULLERTON -- The stats were quite impressive for the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team, following Wednesday night's five-set comeback win over host Fullerton College.

Kyle McCauley paced the Pirate offense with a season-best 27 kills as OCC (13-2, 3-0 in OEC) lost the first two sets, only to prevail, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 27-25, 19-17 against the resilient Hornets (8-5, 2-1).

Wyatt Henson notched 19 kills, while Zane Moothart added 10 as the Pirates ripped 73 kills on the night, overcoming a rough serving night (25 serve errors). 

Setter Colby Elder dished out a season-best 58 assists, while Matthew Johnson paced the defense with 13 digs. McCauley added 11 digs, while Elder notched 10.

Middle blockers Will Donald and Bradley Hankus came up big up front with a combined 16 kills and 11 block assists.

The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Friday against rival Irvine Valley (11-2, 2-0) in a battle of the last two unbeaten OEC teams, beginning at 6 p.m.
