Pirates set to host 10th Annual Volleyball Showcase

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College will be the site once again for the 10th-Annual OCC Men's Volleyball Showcase, which begins on Friday at 11:30 a.m. inside the Peterson Gym.

The 16-team, four-pool field will feature some of the top community college programs in California and over 50 NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA college/universities will be on hand to witness the event.

OCC, which finished second in the state to L.A. Pierce joins the champion Brahmas, as well as Santa Monica, Santiago Canyon, San Diego Mesa, El Camino, Fullerton, Miramar, Long Beach City, Santa Barbara, Irvine Valley, Moorpark and Grossmont for this all-day event.

Following the showcase, OCC will host a dinner for all of the college coaches and will honor former Olympian and L.A. Pierce standout Riley Salimon with the Bob Wetzel Achievement Award for his accomplishments both on and off the volleyball court.

Salmon played for the Brahmas in 1994 and 1995 before joining the men's nation in 2001 as an outside hitter. A member of two U.S. Olympic teams (2004 and 2008), Salmon helped the Americans capture the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Salmon has also led his teams to the gold medal at the FIVB World League in 2008, three gold medals (2003, 2005, 2007) at the NORCECA Championships and two gold medals (2005, 2007) at the America's Cup.

Admission for the Showcase is $10 per person and $5 for high school students.
