McCauley heading to UC San Diego for 2019

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College men's volleyball standout Kyle McCauley will be taking his skills to UC San Diego following the completion of his Pirate career, according to head coach Travis Turner.

McCauley, who will look to lead the Pirates back to the state finals for the third year in a row, topped all California with 255 kills and was third in the Orange Empire Conference in both hitting average (.309) and digs (123).

In addition to those already-impressive stats, McCauley also racked up 19 aces and 36 blocks. His play only got better as the season went on, averaging nearly 22 kills per match over his final eight matches of the regular season and playoffs.

The 2018 Pirates went 20-3 last season and finished runner-up in the state after winning the OEC title for the third straight season and fourth conference crown in five seasons. After going undefeated in conference play, Coast notched a pair of four-set wins over Santa Barbara and Irvine Valley before falling in four sets to L.A. Pierce in the championship match.
