Pirates open 2014 with 4-1 win over El Camino

TORRANCE -- The offense hit, the pitcher threw strikes and the defense played catch ... the perfect way for the Orange Coast College softball team to open its 2014 season.

That formula proved to be successful as the Pirates topped El Camino, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference matchup.

Hannah Cavalier went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI, while Kristin Nance added two hits and two RBI for the Pirates.

Pitcher Kellie Tiner took care of business on her end, pitching a complete game and allowing just one run on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Pirates scored a pair of runs in the first and never looked back as they led 3-0 after five innings before the Warriors pushed across their lone run of the afternoon.

Coast will look for more success on Friday in a doubleheader matchup at Southwestern College, beginning at 12 p.m. OCC's first home game will be on Wednesday against Santa Ana, beginning at 3 p.m.
