Pirates go the distance, but fall to Hawks, 7-1
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College softball team took on conference powerhouse Santiago Canyon and despite a solid all-around performance, the visiting Hawks prevailed, 7-1, on Wednesday at the OCC Softball Complex.
The SCC pitching combination of Carly Wade and Stephanie Pelletier combined to hold the Pirates (3-6, 1-4 in Orange Empire Conference) to just one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
OCC's hits were provided by a single from Briana Magdaleno and a double by Kristin Nance, who also scored Coast's lone run in the sixth inning on a wild pitch.
Tori Duquette went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI, while McRae Cayton went 2-for-5 with a triple, home run, two runs and one RBI. Sydney Abounassar and Victoria White also added home runs for the Hawks (15-2, 4-1).
The Pirates will be on the road for the next few games, beginning on Thursday at Saddleback, beginning at 3 p.m. From there Coast will play in the Golden West Tournament this weekend before hosting Fullerton College on Monday at 3 p.m.
