Magdaleno earns first-team, All-OEC honors!

COSTA MESA -- Freshman infielder Briana Magdaleno capped off a stellar 2014 season by being picked as a first-team, All-Orange Empire Conference selection, as voted on by the conference's head coaches.

After battling through an Achilles tendon injury, Magdaleno was a hitting machine for the Pirates, ranking at, or near the top, of several offensive categories.

Magdaleno finished 2014 with a .500 batting average (45-for-90) with 19 runs scored, 13 home runs and 49 RBI to go along with a .559 on-base percentage and an impressive .978 slugging percentage.

"She really led this team with her effort," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "With her injury, she started the season as just a designated player, but worked her way to first base, then played third and eventually finished the year at shortstop. Her numbers were amazing and she had been able to play at full strength all season, those numbers would have been even better."

Magdaleno's numbers compare very well, both at the conference and statewide levels. Among OEC players, she batted .459 in conference (4th) with 28 hits (6th), eight home runs (1st) and 26 RBI (2nd). She led the OEC with a .902 slugging percentage and was third in conference with a .542 on-base percentage.

Her .500 overall batting average was 11th best in the state and she cracked the top-20 statewide in home runs (4th), RBI (T-9th), on-base percentage (12th) and slugging percentage (6th).

"These numbers are equally impressive in the fact that she only played in 31 games while the rest of the leaders played anywhere from 35-40 games," Smith said. "She's a great kid and we're looking forward to having her as a part of our club next year."
