Pirates come up big with 7-2 win over Rustlers

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- After some first-half back-and-forth, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team pulled away from rival Golden West in a 7-2 Orange Empire Conference win at GWC.

The Pirates (16-3, 12-3 in OEC) exchanged goals for most of the first half with the Rustlers. Finally in the 39th minute, Jessica Amaral put the Pirates in the lead for good with a goal off of an assist from Sarah Gomez, putting OCC up 3-2.

Six minutes later, Gomez took a pass from Anmarie Moreno and ended the first half with a goal to put Coast up 4-2 at the break.

From there, the Pirates did not let up, using goals by Gomez, Cindy Rubio (two goals) and Emma Pridmore to blow the match open. Gomez finished the night with two goals and two assists, while Sarah MacArthur added one goal and two assists.

The Pirates will finish off the regular season on Friday at home against Irvine Valley, beginning at 3 p.m.
