Pirates get season going with three-set sweep over Roadrunners

WHITTIER -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team finally kicked off the 2014 season with a convincing three-set sweep over host Rio Hondo College on Wednesday night.

With all Pirate players participitating in the matchup, the Pirates cruised to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-22 nonconference win over the Roadrunners.

Lehua Alama-Jordan led the Pirates with nine kills, while Danyelle Brown added seven and Sierra Brown chipped in five. In all, 10 different OCC hitters produced kills in the win.

Dishing out all of this offensive success was setter Danielle Boyette, who had 23 assists.

On defense, Carina Perez had 14 digs to lead the Pirates, while Danyelle Brown chipped in eight digs and Kasse-Ann Kiriu-Dela Cruz contributed seven.

Coast will play Friday night at home against Southwestern College, beginning at 5 p.m.
