RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team needed all five sets to finally prevail over host Riverside City College on Wednesday night, topping the Tigers, 17-25, 25-15, 25-22, 21-25, 15-10.
Danyelle Brown led the Pirates (13-5, 7-5 in Orange Empire Conference) with 18 kills and 19 digs, while three other OCC players -- Kerrigan Hecht, Sierra Brown (13 digs) and Lehua Alama-Jordan (10 digs) -- notched 10 kills each.
Setter Danielle Boyette dished out 46 assists and nine digs, while libero Carina Perez anchored the defense with 28 digs.
Sheyenne Reyes led the Tigers (6-15, 3-9) with 13 kills. The setter duo of Sarah Kelly and Melissa Moe dished out 35 assists, while Hannah Lockhart paced the defense with 19 digs.
Wednesday night's marathon was a far cry from the opening-round match between the same two teams back on Oct. 17 at OCC -- a three-set win for the Pirates (25-13, 25-19, 30-28).
The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at home against Saddleback on Wednesday night, beginning at 7 p.m.
