Pirates end regular season with a three-set win over Gauchos

COSTA MESA -- It's not a matter of "if" the Orange Coast College women's volleyball team will earn a playoff spot, it's "where" that match will take place. Until that question gets answered, the Pirates took care of business on Sophomore Night with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Saddleback College on Wednesday night.

Sierra Brown led the Pirates (14-6, 8-6 in OEC) with 10 kills, libero Carina Perez came up with 22 digs and setter Danielle Boyette dished out 32 assists -- all on their final regular-season matches inside the Peterson Gym.

Playoff seedings will be announced this weekend and according to the so-called "experts", the Pirates are on the bubble between hosting an opening-round playoff match or playing on the road. Be sure to log onto www.occpirateathletics.com for the latest playoff information as it becomes available.

With her 10 kills, Brown earned a spot on OCC's career kills list with 462, putting her 10th all time.

With her 22 digs, Perez jumps into third place on the school's career digs list with 675 for her career -- only Ashlee Moon (846 in 2005-06) and recent OCC hall of famer Kiwi Winkler (783 in 2005-06) have accounted for more over a two-year span.
