Boyette, Perez earn first-team OEC honors

COSTA MESA -- Seven Orange Coast College women's volleyball players earned a spot on this year's All-Orange Empire Conference team, following last week's postseason meeting.

Leading the honors for the Pirates are sophomores Danielle Boyette and Carina Perez, who earned first-team selections. Sophomores Sierra Brown, Kellie Kleszcz and freshman Danyelle Brown were chosen for the second team, while freshmen Kerrigan Hecht and Lehua Alama-Jordan earned honorable mention spots.

Boyette was the offensive general for the Pirates in 2014, dishing out 665 assists to go along with 30 kills, 22 aces and 161 digs. Her 665 assists were the third-most among conference setters and four times this year, she notched 40-or-more assists in a single match.

Perez was the anchor for the OCC defense, leading the team with 373 digs. That number is seventh-most for one season in school history and the sophomore libero finished her career with 722 -- third-most in Coast history behind only Ashlee Moon's 846 (2005-06) and Kiwi Winkler 783 (2005-06).

Sierra Brown finished 2014 with a team-best 196 kills to go along with 161 digs and 22 aces. Her 470 career kills place her 10th all-time in school history.

Kleszcz was strong in the middle for two seasons at Coast. This year, she had 72 kills, a team-best 31 aces and a team-best 46 blocks. Her 88 career blocks are eighth-most in school history and she has earned second-team, all-conference honors for the second consecutive year.

Danyelle Brown was a solid offensive option for the Pirates, notching 187 kills to go along with 17 aces and 199 digs. She notched a season-best 18 kills and 16 digs in a five-set win over Fullerton College on Oct. 10.

Hecht played in all 22 matches for the Pirates (15-7) and finished with 71 kills and 22 blocks.

Alama-Jordan provided even more offensive depth for Coast in 2014 and she finished with 139 kills, 103 digs and 25 blocks.
