Pirate trio moving on to four-year schools

COSTA MESA -- A trio of Orange Coast College women's volleyball players -- Danielle Boyette, Sierra Brown and Kasse-Ann Kiriu-Dela Cruz will continue their athletic and academic careers to the four-year level, according to OCC head coach Chuck Cutenese.

Boyette will leave Coast and move on to Dickinson State University in North Dakota, Brown will stay in California and enroll at the University of Redlands and Dela Cruz will return home and join Chaminade University in Hawaii.

Boyette, who came to OCC after spending her first collegiate season at Irvine Valley College, was the offensive general for the Pirates in 2014, dishing out 665 assists to go along with 30 kills, 22 aces and 161 digs. A first-team, All-Orange Empire Conference selection, her 665 assists were the third-most among conference setters and four times this year and she notched 40-or-more assists in a single match.

Brown, a second-team, all-conference selection in 2014 and a first-team selection in 2013 finished last year with a team-best 196 kills to go along with 161 digs and 22 aces. Her 470 career kills place her 10th all-time in school history.

Dela Cruz, a setter and defensive specialist for the Pirates in 2014, played in all 22 matches and garnered 149 digs, 16 assists and 15 aces as a part-time starter.

With this current three-pack of Coast transfers, the OCC women's volleyball program has now sent off 22 players to four-year schools since 2009, continuing the strong tradition of athletic and academic excellence within the program.
