Pirates swept out of playoffs by Grossmont

EL CAJON -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday night with a three-set loss to host Grossmont College in the second round of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

The 10th-seeded Pirates (15-7), who upset No. 7 Santa Barbara City College in the regional playoff opener, ran into a buzzsaw as the second-ranked Griffins (27-0) rolled to a 25-22, 25-11, 25-22 win.

Lehua Alama-Jordan, Kerrigan Hecht and Megan Rawlings each had five kills for Coast, while Sierra Brown chipped in four and Danyelle Brown added three.

Danielle Boyette dished out 21 assists, while on defense, Carina Perez notched 10 digs to lead the Pirates.

For the Griffins, it was their 23rd sweep in 27 matches. Leading the way was Lexi Reddick (15 kills, 11 digs), Rachel Linden (five kills, five aces, 36 assists) and Brooke Callahan (nine kills).
