Pirates handle business against Glendale, Desert at home Quad

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins against Glendale and College of the Desert during a four-team Quad on Wednesday inside the Peterson Gym.

In the opening match against the Vaqueros, the Pirates overcame a second-set stumble and notched a four-set win, 25-9, 24-26, 25-15, 25-22, giving OCC its 600th women's volleyball victory in the program's illustrious 40-year history.

Coast had zero hitting errors in the opening set and rolled to an easy win before Glendale regrouped and pulled out a second-set win. The Pirates shrugged off the setback and rolled to wins in the next two sets to pick up their first win of the season.

Izzy Mariotti led Coast with 12 kills, while Hannah Del Barto added 10 and Sierra Lim chipped in nine. Del Barto and Rylee Adair anchored the OCC defense with 21 digs each, while Lim added 12. Setter Devyn dished out 27 assists, while Izzy Mariotti contributed 13.

In the second match against the Roadrunners, Coast was pushed by COD in the opening set before prevailing, 26-24. From there, OCC rolled to its second win of the afternoon and second win of the season (2-1 overall).

Del Barto paced the offense with 13 kills, while Mariotti added six kills and a team-best four aces.

Adair was a digging machine for the Pirates with a team-best 24 digs, while Lim notched 12.

Coast will host another Quad on Friday with the arrival of Southwestern, Santa Monica and Citrus colleges. The opening matches will begin at 2 p.m.
