Pirates go 2-0 with wins over Hornets, Dons

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of crucial Orange Empire Conference wins last week, topping host Fullerton College last Wednesday in five sets before hosting Santa Ana College and topping the Dons in four sets on Friday.

In the 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-8 win over the Hornets on Wednesday, Devyn Holland continued her all-around stellar play with a team-best 12 kills to go along with 27 assists and seven digs. Middle blocker Alibelle Pilimai notched nine kills with only one hitting error, while Aubrey St. Laurent added eight kills and Sierra Lim knocked down seven kills.

Savannah Babcock dished out 16 assists, while Rylee Adair came up with a team-best 19 digs and Lim added 16.

From there Coast hosted the Dons and after a slow start, the Pirates rolled to a four-set win, 19-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-8. After eight hitting errors in the opening set, Coast managed just eight hitting errors the rest of the night and improved to 17-7 overall, 9-6 in the OEC. St. Laurent led the offense with 12 kills, while Holland added 10 go to along with 26 assists and nine digs. Babcock added 14 assists, while on defense, Adair (15 digs), Lim (14 digs) and Mackenzie Bill (13 digs) were all over the Peterson Gym floor with big plays.

Coast will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at home against Irvine Valley on Sophomore Night, beginning at 6 p.m.
