Pirates top Dons, fall to Lasers in OEC action

IRVINE -- Last week, the Orange Coast College went on the road for a pair of Orange Empire Conference matchups and earned a split for the week, earning a five-set win over Santa Ana on Wednesday before falling to Irvine Valley on Friday.

Against the Dons, OCC (13-3, 5-2 in OEC) jumped out to a two-set lead before the Dons (8-8, 1-6) pushed the Pirates to a fifth set. In the end, Coast prevailed, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 15-8 for a crucial OEC road victory.

Hannah Del Barto led the offense with 14 kills and 15 digs. Evelyn Awai added 12 kills, while Aubrey St. Laurent chipped in 11 kills. 

Libero Rylee Adair anchored the defense with 26 digs, while setter Devyn Holland dished out 45 assists to go along with 12 digs.

From there OCC headed to IVC to take on the top-ranked Lasers and the hosts pulled out a 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 win over the Pirates. St. Laurent had six kills to lead the way, while Awai and Alibelle Pilimai each added five kills. 

Awai and Sierra Lim each had 11 digs, while Holland again paced the offense with 17 assists.

Coast will return to action on Friday at Santiago Canyon College, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Friday, Oct. 27 against Riverside City College, also at 6 p.m.
