Jarvis, Pirates blank Jaguars, 4-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College softball team picked up a strong pitching performance by Bronwyn Jarvis and blanked visiting Southwestern College, 4-0, on Tuesday, in a rainout makeup game played at the OCC Softball Complex.

Jarvis (5-4) went the distance and held the Jaguars (19-11) to just five hits and no walks over seven innings, while the Pirates (18-14) broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to pick up a solid win against a good SWC program.

OCC's three-run fifth started with back-to-back singles by Liana Castro and Joanna Michaels. Brooklyn Pack moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt and an error by the SWC pitcher allowed her to reach first and score Castro on the play, putting Coast up, 1-0.

Cora Tyo followed with a grounder in front of home plate and she was thrown out, but on the play, Michaels attempted to score and was safe on a dropped return throw by the SWC catcher, putting the Pirates up, 2-0.

Janae Gomez followed with a run-scoring ground out to make it 3-0 and that would prove to be enough for Jarvis and the Pirates.

An RBI-single by Madison LeClaire in the bottom of the sixth capped off the scoring for the Pirates before Jarvis allowed a leadoff single, but no more, in the top of the seventh to preserve the win for Coast.

Madison Taylor went 2-for-3 for the Pirates, who have now won three straight after dropping nine in a row.

The Pirates return to action on Wednesday at home against Golden West, beginning at 3 p.m.
