Pirates open season with 9-0 win at Cuyamaca
EL CAJON -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team did not waste any time or energy in Wednesday's 9-0 season-opening victory at Cuyamaca College against the host Coyotes.
Defending state runner-up Clarisa Colling showed she is more than ready for her sophomore year, defeating Cuyamaca's Karen Frazier, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles she partnered up once again with sophomore teammate Karen Trinh and breezed past Frazier and Johana Santamaria, 8-2.
Coast only lost 14 games the entire afternoon as Trinh (6-1, 6-0), JoAnn Taylor (6-0, 6-1), Samantha Newhall (6-2, 6-1), Katie Dahlberg (6-0, 6-0) and Anouk De Graauw (6-3, 6-2) swept through singles play.
Taylor/Dahlberg blanked their Cuyamaca doubles foe, 8-0, while Newhall/De Graauw cruised to an 8-2 win.
Weather permitting, the Pirates will host El Camino at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Long Beach City College on Thursday (2 p.m.).
