Pirates breeze past Imperial Valley, 8-1

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team took care of some weekend business with an 8-1 nonconference win over visiting Imperial Valley on Saturday at the OCC Tennis Complex.

Coast (8-2) lost only three games over the first four singles matches as Clarisa Colling (6-0, 6-1), Karen Trinh (6-0, 6-1), Cecilia Arzaga (6-0, 6-0) and JoAnn Taylor (6-1, 6-0) made quick work of their opposition.

At No. 5, Samantha Newhall swept her way to a 6-3, 6-2 win, while at No. 6, Katie Dahlbert rolled, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, it was more of the same as the teams of Colling/Trinh (8-2) and Arzaga/Dahlberg (8-1) had little trouble and posted easy wins.

The Pirates will return to home on Thursday to host Cypress College, beginning at 2 p.m.
