COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team claimed a share of the Orange Empire Conference title on Friday with a 7-2 win over visiting Fullerton College on Friday.

With the win, Coast (15-2 overall, 8-2 in conference) shares the honors with Irvine Valley (10-4, 8-2), which travelled to Riverside and notched a 6-3 win over the host Tigers.

OCC won four of six singles matches, highlighted by No. 5 Samantha Newhall, who overcame a 3-6 loss in the opening set to win the match, 6-0 (18-16 in a super tiebreaker). Karen Trinh (6-2, 6-4), JoAnn Taylor (6-0, 6-0) and Katie Dahlberg (6-0, 6-0) took a bit more of a direct path en route to straight-set wins for Coast.

In doubles play, Coast swept all three matches, including an 8-1 win by the team of Taylor and Newhall and an 8-2 triumph by Dahlberg and Cecilia Arzaga.

The Pirates will find out their playoff schedule on Sunday, but will most likely host Tuesday's opening round matchup of the Southern California Regional playoffs.
