Trinh captures Orange Empire Conference singles title!

CYPRESS -- Sophomore women's tennis standout Karen Trinh ripped through the competition to capture the Orange Empire Conference singles championship on Saturday.

Trinh, who entered the tournament seeded No. 3 overall, earned a first-round bye before sweeping past Cypress College's Khanh Duanog, 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the Round of 16.

There, Trinh took on Saddleback's Kristina Parks, where she won, 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) to qualify for the upcoming Southern California Regionals.

In the OEC quarterfinals, Trinh advanced after Irvine Valley's Fiorella Dreux withdrew from the tourney and in the semifinals, Trinh took care of Saddleback's Jackie Malkonian, topping the No. 10-seed, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) to reach the finals.

Taking on Fullerton's Alex Altamirano, Trinh battled through a tough first set to win, 7-5, 6-2, to claim the OEC title.

In 2017, Trinh is 20-2 in singles play and in doubles, she is 16-2 with playing partner Clarisa Colling.

Both Trinh and Colling qualified for the Southern California Regional Tournament. Colling, the No. 1 seed in the OEC Championships, advanced to the qualifying quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cypress College's Tiana Cung, but withdrew from the tourney to rest a nagging injury.

Trinh, who is 20-2 in singles play this year and 31-8 during her Coast career, has qualified No. 8 in singles play for the upcoming SoCal Regional Tournament in Ojai, while Colling is seeded No. 3. In doubles, Trinh and Colling are seeded No. 3. The Ojai Tournament kicks off this Thursday with SoCal Regional action, with the state finals set for Saturday and Sunday.
