Pirates post impressive win over Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD -- It was worth the drive for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates make the trek to Bakersfield College and topped the host Renegades, 5-4, in a matchup of two unbeaten teams on Tuesday.

The keys to victory for the Pirates (6-0) were a pair of three-set wins in singles, as No. 2 Karen Trinh (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) and No. 4 JoAnn Taylor (2-6, 6-1, 6-0) outlasted their BC opposition.

OCC's No. 1 Clarisa Colling (6-3, 6-2) and No. 3 Cecilia Arzaga (6-2, 6-2) earned straight-set wins, giving the Pirates a 4-2 lead heading into doubles.

Despite a pair of doubles wins for the Renegades (9-1), the OCC No. 1 doubles team of Colling and Trinh rolled past Paige Darsteen and Riley Tucker, 8-1, to pull out the team victory for Coast.

The Pirates will open up Orange Empire Conference play at Irvine Valley on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Thursday, March 2 against Saddleback, also at 2 p.m.
