Pirates roll to 3-0 win over Hornets

COSTA MESA -- The nighttime is the right time for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team as the Pirates cruise to a 3-0 win over Fullerton College under the lights of LeBard Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Pirates (7-4-3 overall, 6-2-2 in the Orange Empire Conference) have allowed just two goals over their last seven matches, going 5-1-1 over that span. That streak has helped Coast (20 points) get to within one point of Cypress (21) for third place in the OEC standings and just two points behind second-place Saddleback (22).

In Tuesday's win over the Hornets (5-8-2, 4-5-1), Jessica Bracken had two goals, while Cori Haney added a solo goal. Assists were turned in by Ana Villanueva, Rachel Meier and Emma Gomez.

Coast outshot Fullerton 20-5 and peppered Hornet goalkeeper Mallory Van Voorhis all night long. Van Voorhis finished with 13 saves, including several point-blank stops that kept the game from getting way out of hand.

OCC netminder Odalis Elias enjoyed the solid play from her teammates and had a relatively easy night, notching three saves to pick up the shutout win.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against first-place Santiago Canyon (12-1-1, 9-1), beginning at 3 p.m. at the OCC Soccer Complex.
