Pirates fall to Glendale in SoCal Regional playoff

LA VERNE -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team saw its 2015 season come to an end on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Rio Hondo in the second round of the Southern California Regional playoffs, held at the University of La Verne.

The 15th-seeded Pirates (12-6-4), who tied the No. 2-seeded Roadrunners (14-1-4) earlier in the season, could not find the answer on Saturday as three first-half goals were simply too much to overcome.

"It was a great season for this team, but we simply ran out of gas a little bit," OCC head coach Kevin Smith said. "At the beginning of the season, I thought we would be pretty good, but I wasn't sure how good. This team proved to me and everyone else that we could compete with anyone and I'm very proud of them for that."

RHC grabbed the lead for good in the eighth minute with a goal by Genesis Patino and added on with goals by Andrea Sanchez (22nd minute) and Maritza Acuna (25th minute). Janeth Acuna had two assists, while Erika Lizarraga provided one assist.
