Pirates roll in second half for 4-0 win over Mustangs

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team scored four second-half goals and cruised to a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Norco College on Friday at the OCC Soccer Complex.

After a frustrating first half of play, the Pirates (11-5-4, 10-3-3 in conference) finally got things rolling in the right direction and used a 20-minute, four-goal barrage to put the Mustangs (2-18, 0-16) away.

In the 61st minute, Ana Villanueva lobbed in a shot from just over 25 yards out that landed just over the head of Mustang goalkeeper Breanne Gonzalez and just under the crossbar, putting Coast ahead for good.

Six minutes later, a cross pass from Nicole Lombardo found its way to teammate Cori Haney, who beat Gonzalez for OCC's second goal.

Haney continued her fine play with her second goal of the afternoon -- off an assist by Karla Romero -- to put the Pirates up 3-0 in the 70th minute.

Finally, in the 81st minute, Camille Stevens received a pass off a corner kick and fed a pass to Nicole Lombardo, who scored Coast's fourth and final goal.

The Pirates outshot the Mustangs, 26-1 and have most likely earned a spot in next week's Southern California Regional playoffs, once the final RPI rankings have been tallied. Log on to www.occpirateathletics.com for the latest playoff information as it becomes available.
