Pirates roll past Rio Hondo in OCC Crossover

COSTA MESA -- There was plenty of points to go around for the Orange Coast College women's basketball as the Pirates rolled past visiting Rio Hondo, 67-39 on Day 1 of the 2013 OCC Crossover on Thursday night inside the Peterson Gym.

On a team with only eight players, the Pirates used their three-player rotation to the best of their abilities and the results were very impressive for their home opener of 2013.

Raechelle Davis and Kelsey Dalton each had 18 points to lead the Pirates (3-1), while Dayanara Armenta added 10 points and five assists. Davis and Jasmine Matar also led Coast on the boards with 11 rebounds, while Armenta and Matar each dished out five assists.

For the Roadrunners (2-3), it was a long shooting night as the guests managed to hit just 20.7 percent of their shots (12-of-58) and struggled from 3-point range (2-of-18). Evelyn Ramirez led the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Coast grabbed control of the game with about nine minutes left in the first half, using an 18-3 run to close out the half and carry a 15-point lead into the locker room.

That would be as close as the Roadrunners would get the rest of the night as the Pirate offense found its groove and shot an impressive 17-of-32 from the floor (53.1 percent) for the final 20 minutes.

OCC will return to action in the Crossover on Friday night against El Camino, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
