Pirates allow second half rally, fall to Cypress 49-45

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team suffered its first loss in Orange Empire Conference play as Cypress College claimed first place with a 49-45 come-from-behind victory.

The loss drops the Pirates to 10-8 on the season and 1-1 in the OEC while the visiting Chargers improved to 12-8 overall and 3-0 in conference.

After the Pirates built a five-point lead at the half, Cypress came back to tie the game just two minutes into the second. From there, the two teams traded the lead several times over the next three minutes before a Raechelle Davis jump shot put the Pirates up 32-31 just under five minutes into the half.

Orange Coast went on to build its lead to eight points at 41-33 on a Chanelle DiCroce jumper with under 12 minutes to go. But the Chargers would rally, tying the game at 41-41 before taking a 43-41 lead.

After Davis hit a jumper to tie the game at 43-43, Cypress' Breanna Patton hit a pair of free throws to put the Chargers up for good at 45-45 before Cypress went on to the 49-45 victory.

Davis led the way for the Pirates with 16 points and 18 rebounds while DiCroce added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
