Pirates start season strong with win over Victor Valley

MT. SAN JACINTO -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team opened the 2013 season season on the right foot with an 85-48 win over Victor Valley in the opening round of the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament on Friday.
Dayanara Armenta hit six 3-pointers on her way to 24 points. Raechelle Davis picked up 18 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals and Kelsey Dalton came off of the bench to chip in eight points.
The Pirates dominated the first half of play, jumping out to a 46-19 lead and never looked back. Coast controlled things down low and outscored VVC 42-18 in the paint and by 21 points from 3-point range.
Coast returns to tournament action at Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday and Sunday.
