Armenta heading to Hawaii Pacific

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College women's basketball player Dayanara Armenta will be continuing her athletic and academic careers at Hawaii Pacific University in the Fall, according to head coach Mike Thornton.

Armenta, a 5-foot-6 guard from Foothill HS, played in 27-of-30 games for the Pirates and finished for the team lead by averaging 11.9 points per game.

A steady offensive player, Armenta reached double figures in scoring 18 times last year, including a season-high 24 points against Victor Valley on Nov. 15.

Last season, Armenta led the Orange Empire Conference by averaging 16.9 points per game and finishes her Coast career with 799 points in her 55-game career (14.5 points per game). As a freshman, she notched her career high -- 28 points -- in a game against Allan Hancock on Nov. 29.

Armenta was a two-time, first-team, All-Orange Empire Conference selection during her tenure with the Pirates and her gritty play helped lead OCC's shorthanded squad to the second round of the Southern California Regional playoffs.

During her prep career, Armenta helped lead the Knights to a 2012 CIF championship and a state runner-up finish in 2012. As a senior, she earned second-team, all-league honors.
